Gaynor Te Grotenhuis

Gaynor Te Grotenhuis, 79, of Sioux Center, IA died Sunday, January 3, 2010, at the Heart Hospital of South Dakota in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be held Tuesday at the Memorial Funeral Home from 4-7PM with the family present from 5-7PM. A prayer service for family and friends will be held Wednesday at 9:15AM at the Carmel Reformed Church followed by interment in the Carmel Cemetery of rural Rock Valley. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 10:30AM at Carmel Reformed Church of rural Rock Valley with Rev. Mark Heijerman officiating. Gaynor Te Grotenhuis was born on April 16, 1930, near Carmel, Iowa. He was the son of Willard and Hattie (Bouma) Te Grotenhuis. He grew up on a farm near Carmel and attended the Sioux Center Christian School. On January 3, 1951, he was united in marriage to Elsie Broek. They lived on and worked the family farm until they moved to Sioux Center in 1997. Gaynor worked for AMPI as a milk truck driver for several years and also drove truck for Farmer's Co-op Society. He attended the Carmel Reformed church his entire life. He loved his church family and served as elder. Gaynor played softball for many years for the Carmel softball team; he enjoyed league bowling, and attending his children and grandchildren's activities. Gaynor loved to socialize and enjoyed meeting with his friends at Doc's cafe for breakfast and eating at the Family Table, where he made many good friends. Survivors include his three children: Donna and John Hulshof of Rock Rapids, Wayne Te Grotenhuis, and Beth Te Grotenhuis of Sioux Center; five grandchildren and spouses: Brian and Marna Hulshof of LeMars, Lisa and Todd Warntjes of Rock Rapids, Kelli and Ian Macleod of Portland, Oregon, Allison and Josh Kempema, and Melissa Huisman and her special friend Terry Swets of Sioux Center; ten great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Grace, Noah and Ella Hulshof; Mitchell, Anna, and Isaac Warntjes; and Caleb, Gabriel, and Kennedy Kempema. He is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law: Lester and Joan Te Grotenhuis of Sioux Center and Marvin and Wanda Te Grotenhuis of Boulder, Colorado; brother-in-law, Jerry Van't Hul and his wife Linda of Sheldon. Also surviving are four sisters-in-law: Gert Broek of Sioux Falls, SD, Berdie Broek, Christine Schouten and Cora Broek of Sioux Center and brother-in-law, John Van Beek of Orange City. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Elsie; his mother and father; sister, Myrtle Van't Hul and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Dave and Cornelia Broek, Arend Broek, Bill and Margaret DeKoter, Jim and Nell Franken, Mathilda Van Beek, Clarence and Bertha Klein, Bill and Ina Broek, Cornie Broek, John Broek and Peter Schouten.
