Henrietta Bierma, 92, of Sioux Center, IA died Friday, January 15, 2010 at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. Visitation will be held Monday at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center from 4-8PM, with the family present from 6-8PM. A prayer service for family and friends will be held Tuesday at 10AM at First Christian Reformed Church with interment to follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11AM at First Christian Reformed Church. The Bierma family prefers memorials be directed to the Sioux Center Christian School. Henrietta Bierma was born October 16, 1917, in Edgerton, MN. She was the daughter of Henry and Jennie (Bliek) DeGroot. At the age of 14 she moved with her family to Sioux Center. She graduated from Sioux Center high school in 1936. She married George Bierma, August 15, 1940 in Sioux Center. Her gift was hospitality and her kitchen was her mission. She was a beloved wife and mother and was loved by many. Henrietta was an active member of the First Christian Reformed Church, a member of the Golden Hour ladies aid, the Christian School Guild, a Christian school tutor, and she made pig-in-the-blankets for Christian education for many years. Taking pictures was her favorite pastime and she enjoyed reminiscing through them. She was a devout Christian woman and a prayer warrior for her children, grandchildren and great grand-children. Survivors include her eight children and their spouses Lloyd and Dianne of Sioux Center, Merle and Marge of Montrose, CO, Millie and Harvey Bos of Colorado Springs, Co, Gretta and Bob Siebersma of Gallup, NM, Carol and Verlyn Schaap of Sioux City, IA, Rosanne and Jack Van Marion of Bloomington, MN, George and Mary of Sioux Center, IA, Mari and Jarvis DeBerg of Sioux Falls; one sister, Wilma Baker of Sioux Center, IA; 30 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Bierma; parents; two sisters: Johanna Vander Linden and Cornelia Brandes; one brother, Adrian DeGroot, and a daughter-in-law, Bev Bierma.
