Esther Vermeer was born to Andrew and Alida (Berghuis) De Zeeuw on October 5, 1921 at the family home on the farm 3 miles from Sioux Center. She attended school at Plato No. 8. She graduated from Sioux Center High School in 1939. On June 6, 1939 she married Gerrit E. Vermeer. They lived on the family farm east of Sioux Center. They had five beautiful children, Marilyn Faye, Maxine Beth, Iva Jean, Everett Gale and Don Lee. Esther and Gerrit moved to Lynden, Washington in 1960, where they lived for 30 years. Then due to various circumstances she moved around ending up in Ireton, Iowa from 2000 to 2008. She returned to Eastern Washington after the death of her oldest child to be closer to her three children.
Esther was active in 4-H, church work, womens bible study and was president of Womans Classis of the Cascades (with the First Reformed Church in Lynden) for several years. She loved her role as mother, wife and homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, canning, and baking and would share it with her family and friends. Fellowship time with family, neighbors and friends was always a highlight. In their later years, Esther and Gerrit enjoyed camping in British Columbia.
Above all else, Esther loved the Lord dearly.
