Gerrit H. Rozeboom, 84, of Sioux Center, IA died Monday, January 3, 2011 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital of Sioux Center.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
A prayer service for family and friends will be held Thursday at 10:15AM at First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11AM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating.
The Rozeboom family prefers memorials be directed to the Sight & Sound Ministry of First Reformed Church.
Gerrit Henry Rozeboom was born May 7, 1926, to John and Anna (Kruizenga) Rozeboom at the family farm near Sioux Center, Iowa. He attended country school in Welcome Township. Gerrit married Kathleen Van Rooyen on May 18, 1949, in Orange City, Iowa. Gerrit and Kathleen spent their lives farming on the Rozeboom Homestead. They retired to Sioux Center in 2004.
Gerrit was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. He enjoyed his life on the farm, raising cattle and crops and riding horses. Gerrit also enjoyed his large family of kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, and his sense of humor was always evident.
Gerrit is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kathleen; six children: Linda (Rich) McCoy of Bluffton, OH, Stan (Cherilyn) Rozeboom of Sioux Center, IA, Verlyn (Deb) Rozeboom of Sioux Center, IA, Karen (David) Vollmar of Pella, IA, Arlyn (Beth) Rozeboom of Sioux Center, IA, and Galen (Chris) Rozeboom of Sioux Center, IA; a son-in-law, Jim Vander Stoep of Oak Harbor, WA; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Bud (Gert) Rozeboom of Sioux Center; sister, Eldine Wagner of Sun City, AZ; sisters-in-law, Irene Pennings, Leora (Leland) De Haan and brother-in-law, Jack (Willie) Van Rooyen all of Orange City as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gerrit was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Rozeboom; a daughter, Janice Vander Stoep; two infant grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Dick Van Wyk; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Dubb Rozeboom and Dick and Judy Rozeboom; his parents-in-law, Walter and Nellie Van Rooyen; brother-in-law, Gerrit Pennings, and sister-in-law, Marie Van Rooyen.
