Eunice Hulstein passed away on January 8, 2011, at her winter home in Mission, Texas, due to complications from a brain aneurysm. She was 78. Eunice will long be remembered as a woman who was tirelessly positive, exceptionally passionate about her family, and unshakable in her faith. Eunice Mae Schutt was born to Sam T. and Grace (Peelen) Schutt on January 25, 1932. She lived her entire life in the Sioux Center area. She attended country school and graduated from Sioux Center Community High School. She then attended junior college at Northwestern in Orange City and taught for one year before becoming a full-time wife and mother. On November 14, 1952, she married her high-school sweetheart, Ken Hulstein. They were blessed with four sons. The family enjoyed life on the farm and riding horses, as well as camping and boating. Eunice had a loving heart and a gift for hospitality. While Eunice and Ken lived on the farm, her meals often drew in a rowdy mix of family, farm employees, and salesmen. In their retirement years, Eunice and Ken spent the winter months in Texas, a practice she continued after his passing in 1995. Her later years were devoted to attending her grandchildren's activities, spending time at the family lake house, and whipping up countless batches of her famous rice krispie bars. She also enjoyed a close group of friends, "the grannies," who loved to travel and play cards together. Eunice was an active lifelong member of the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. Eunice is survived by her four sons and their wives: Kirk and Julie, Kelly and Sheryl, Kraig and Cheri, Kembe and Kathy all of Sioux Center; sixteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her brothers and their wives: Howard and Marlys Schutt of Brookings, SD, Gene and AnnaMae Schutt Hospers, IA; her sister and her husband: Sandy and Norly Vande Brake of Okoboji, IA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Vernie and Paul Van Engelenhoven of Orange City; sisters-in-law, MaryLou Schelling of Sioux Center, Harriet Vermeer Sioux Center; and brother-in-law, Carl Vermeer of Alexandria, MN. She will be joined in her heavenly home by her husband Kenneth Warren Hulstein, a grandson, Kyle Kristopher Hulstein; sisters-in-law Joan (De Ruyter) Schutt and Wilma (Hulstein) Vermeer; and brothers-in-law Gerrit Hulstein and Elrich Vermeer. Eunice will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
