Pearl Bloemendaal, 93, of Sioux Center, IA died Monday, January 17, 2011 at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, IA. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 6-8PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held Thursday at 10AM at Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11AM at Bethel Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiating. The Bloemendaal family prefers memorials be directed to Sioux Center Christian School or Bethel Christian Reformed Church. Pearl Bloemendaal was born July 1, 1917, to Cornelius and Rena (Terpstra) Maliepaard in Inwood, Iowa. In her formative years Pearl, lived in the Inwood and Sioux Center area and attended country school through the eighth grade. On January 28, 1941, Pearl married Eilert Bloemendaal in Sioux Center. The couple lived for a while in the Flandreau, SD area and then farmed near Doon, Iowa. In 1963, the couple moved to a farm near Sioux Center. Eilert died suddenly on January 28, 1966 at the age of forty-eight. To their union five children were born. In her later years, Pearl worked at Dordt College. She was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church and was a participant in the Sunshine Circle. She also helped with the Sioux Center Christian School, Cash for Trash program. Pearl enjoyed spending her free time reading, crocheting and quilting. She dearly loved the time she spent with her family. She is survived by three daughters: Irene Van Veldhuizen, of Inwood; Harriet Van Beek and her husband Cornie of Sioux Center; Ruth Vande Stroet and her husband Peter of Rock Valley; a son, Kenneth Bloemendaal of Sioux Center; son-in-law, Robert Ver Mulm of Sioux Center; 17 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; three sisters: Jeanette Miedema of Mitchell, SD; Kay Spoelhof and Trudy Split and her husband Ken all of Grand Rapids, MI; one brother, Gary Maliepaard of Grand Rapids, MI as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Eilert Bloemendaal; her parents; daughter, Joyce Ver Mulm; son-in-law, Gerrit Van Veldhuizen; granddaughter, Linda Van Veldhuizen; sisters, Hattie Maliepaard, Nell Vander Veen, Tena De Kruyf and her husband, Leonard; and two brothers-in-law, Henry Miedema and Charles Spoelhof.
