Gertrude Van Beek, 90, of Sioux Center, IA died Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. A visitation will be held Monday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 6-8PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10am at Memorial Funeral Home with Reverend H. Hofman officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. Gertrude Van Beek was born to Henry and Alice (Van De Hoef) Van Voorst on October 12, 1920 at Sioux Center, Iowa. On June 26, 1943 she was united in marriage to Henry A. Van Beek in Dayton, Ohio. He preceded her in death on November 28, 2002. Gertrude lived in the Sioux Center area for most of her life, except for a time when they farmed near Corsica, South Dakota. For many years he served as custodian for the Netherlands Reformed Church of Sioux Center, and was an Amway Products distributor for nearly thirty years. Gertrude was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Sioux Center where she was involved with Dorcas Society. Gertrude was a great cook. She loved music and doing crafts. She thoroughly enjoyed gardening, raising flowers and nature in general. Gertrude is survived by her seven children: Henrietta (Dennis) Egdorf of Boyden; Alvina (Don) Letcher of Hardwick, MN; Alvis (Marlene) Van Beek of Ireton; Helen (Arnold) DeSmit of Orange City; Roger (Rhonda) Van Beek of Westfield; David Van Beek and John Van Beek both of Sioux City; her 22 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. Gertrude is also survived three sisters: Hattie (John) Rus of Corsica, SD, Marie (John) Bakker of Rock Valley, Priscilla (Jack) Dibbet of Sioux Center; brother, Jake (Freda) Van Voorst of Inwood; two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Van Voorst and Johanna Van Voorst both of Sioux Center along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Gertrude was preceded in death by three grandsons: Russell Roger Van Beek, Kadean Toering, Chaz Toering; two daughters-in-law: Sharon Van Beek, Joy Van Beek; son-in-law, Denny Tiedemann; sister and brother-in-law, Minnie and Bill Van Bochove and three brothers: John, Rich and Gerrit Van Voorst.
