Ron De Stigter, 60, of Canton, SD, formerly of Sioux Center, Iowa, died February 3, 2011, at his residence.
A visitation will be held Sunday from 2-8PM, with the family present from 2-4PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
A prayer service for family and friends will be held Monday at 10:00AM at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 11AM at First Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Mark Verbruggen officiating.
The De Stigter family prefers memorials to Sioux Center Christian School or Western Christian High School.
Ronald Lee De Stigter was born June 25, 1950, to Peter and Myna (Vis) De Stigter in Hull, Iowa. He graduated from Western Christian High School in 1968. Ron served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Ron completed his education at Dordt College of Sioux Center.
For a number of years, Ron worked construction with De Stigter Brothers Construction. For 12 years he worked as a herdsman for his close friends, Anton and Albertha Kampen of rural Canton, South Dakota. Ron loved raising cattle and spending time on the farm. For the last few years, Ron has also worked in the evenings as a herdsman for Hematech Inc. of Sioux Center.
Ron was a lifetime member of First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. He enjoyed running, and participated in a number of road races over the years, including a 5K this last summer after he turned sixty. Ron had a gentle nature and caring spirit which allowed him to talk to anyone he met.
Left to cherish his memory are six siblings and their spouses: Harlan and Jolene De Stigter of Orange City; Winette and John Mc Ewen of Smithers, British Columbia; Jerome De Stigter of Sioux Center; Berwyn and Beth De Stigter of Lennox, SD; Douglas and Lorie De Stigter of Sioux Center and Beverly and Robin Miller of Gilbert, AZ. Also left to cherish his memory are a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Myna De Stigter.
