Katherine Vander Vander Vliet

Katherine Vander Vliet, 93, of Sioux Center, IA died Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Royale Meadows Care Center of Sioux Center. A visitation will be held Monday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held Tuesday at 10AM at the Carmel Reformed Church. Interment will follow the prayer service in the Carmel Cemetery of rural Rock Valley. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11AM at Carmel Reformed Church of rural Rock Valley, Iowa, with Rev. Mark Heijerman officiating. The Vander Vliet family prefers memorials be directed to Royale Meadows Care Center, c/o the Sioux Center Community Hospital Foundation or Carmel Reformed Church. Katherine Vander Vliet was born October 26, 1917, to John and Henrietta Feekes. She was raised in the Carmel, Iowa area and attended country school through the eighth grade. On March 4, 1937, Katherine was joined in marriage to Evert Vander Vliet on the Feekes family homestead. The young couple made their home on the family farm near Sioux Center. Katherine was a lifelong member of the Carmel Reformed Church and was active member of the Ladies Aide. Katherine loved to crochet, made many quilts and was an excellent seamstress. She also enjoyed spending many hours at the piano. She is survived by her five children: Audrey (Leon) Rus of Ireton, IA; Carol Langstraat of Hull, IA; Lyle (Linda) Vander Vliet of Sergeant Bluff, IA; Brenda (Larry) Van Dyke of Sioux Center and Curtis Vander Vliet of Sioux Center; 18 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; brother, Henry (Cynthia) Feekes of Rock Valley, IA; sisters-in-law, Nellie Vander Vliet of Rock Valley, Mina De Jong of Montevideo, MN, Winnie Vander Vliet of Luverne, MN and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Evert in 1992; son-in-law, Henry Langstraat; grandson, Jim Mayrose; great-grandson, Craig Allen Van Dyke; brother, Ted Feekes; sister, Marian Schoep and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
