Louise Kaelke

June 12, 1926 — November 18, 2009

Louise Mars Kaelke , 83, of Sioux Center, IA died Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:30 AM at New Life Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Carl Boersma officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in West Lawn Cemetery of Orange City.

Visitation will be held Friday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 6-8PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.



Louise Kaelke was born June 12, 1926 in Ireton, IA, the daughter of Ed and Trina (Van Schepen) Van Engen. She grew up in the Ireton area and graduated from Ireton High School in 1943.

On, Jan. 24, 1945, she married Andrew (Andy) Mars in Ireton, IA. Andy passed away Nov. 25, 1977. She later married Roy A. Kaelke, Nov. 24, 1984, in Orange City, IA. The couple moved to New London, MN. In 1992 they retired in Sioux Center. Roy passed away Sept. 26, 1996.

Louise was a member of New Life Reformed Church and the Morning Glories Circle.

Remaining to miss her dearly are four daughters: Judy Ellens and her husband Dave of Grand Rapids, MI, Janice Mars of Sheldon, Glenda Barinsky and her husband Mark of Hawarden, and Gail Schenk and her husband Ross of Hull; two stepsons: Gary Kaelke and his wife Merrily, Kervyn Kaelke and his wife Marilyn all of New London, MN; stepdaughter, Sheryl Zipf and her husband Gary of Lino Lakes, MN; sixteen children were blessed to call her grandmother and thirty children were blessed to call her great-grandmother.

She also leaves behind 6 sisters: Gert Sjaarda and husband John of Sioux Center, Geneva Hoolsema of Grand Rapids, MI, Jean Veltema and husband George of Jenison, MI, Joyce Baker and husband Harold of Orange City, Marlene Natelborg and husband John of Grand Rapids, MI and Carol Van Wyhe and husband Jim of Ireton as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, a brother Glenn, a sister in infancy, and brother-in-laws, Thomas Smit and Henry Hoolsema.
