Ronald L. Groeneweg was born April 10, 1936, in Hull, Iowa to Walter and Jessemine (Van Sloten) Groeneweg. He attended Hull Christian School, and graduated from Western Christian High school.
On June 12, 1956, he married Joyce Dykstra in Middleburg, Iowa. In 1958, Ron moved his family to Pella, Iowa where he owned and operated a machine shop. Later he was an industrial engineer for Vermeer manufacturing. Ron was a member of the national guard from 1956-1963.
The family moved back to northwest Iowa in 1970, at which time Ron worked as a plant manager at various manufacturing facilities.
In 1977, he successfully established and owned Greenway and Associates in Sioux Center. The company, a supplier of industrial manufacturing equipment, was later moved to Orange City. Other businesses he established and owned were Central Tire shop of Sioux Center and the Auto Wash-car wash in Sheldon.
Ron and Joyce were charter members of Faith Christian Reformed Church, where he served as Deacon. He also taught Sunday school in Pella, attended many Bible studies, and sang in the choir. Ron had a special love for Christian education, and appreciated that all of his children and grandchildren attended Christian schools.
Ron enjoyed golf, fishing and hunting with his family, grandchildren and friends. He especially enjoyed fishing the Colorado River at Lake Havasu, Arizona where he and Joyce wintered for 12 years. Ron loved attending his grand children's activities whenever possible.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 53 years, Joyce Groeneweg of Sioux Center; daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Bob De Jong of Newkirk; son and daughter-in-law, Clark and Lisa Groeneweg of Orange City; 6 grandchildren: Brent and (Lori) De Jong of Ireton, Ryan and (Marlena) De Jong of Orange City, Justin De Jong of Hull, Erica and ( Brandon) Huisman of Sioux Center, Alissa Groeneweg of Orange City, and Joel Groeneweg of Orange City; 3 great-grandchildren: Anna, Jonah and Morgan De Jong; three brothers: Wally and (Carol) Groeneweg of Sioux Center, Bill and (Lorraine) Groeneweg of Orange City, and Verlyn Groeneweg, of Sioux Center; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Clarice and Jerace Vande Griend of Sioux Center; sister-in-law, Betty Smit of Orange City as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Jess Groeneweg; parents-in-law, Jake and Agnes Dykstra and brother-in-law, Arnold Smit.
