Tim Altena, 40, of Sioux Center, IA died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital, after his eight year battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10:30AM at the Maurice First Reformed Church of Maurice, IA with Rev. Wayne Sneller officiating. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
A prayer service will be held Saturday at 9AM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
Visitation will be held Friday from 3-8PM, with the family present from 5:30-8PM at the Maurice First Reformed Church.
Memorials are preferred in care of the Altena Family.
Timothy Paul Altena was born September 27, 1968 to Don and Carol Altena in Sioux Center. He attended Sioux Center Christian School and graduated from Western Christian High School with the class of 1987. He followed graduation with one year of college at Dordt.
On June 18, 1988, Tim married Sherri Dekker at Maurice First Reformed Church. The couple made their home in Sioux Center and Tim began working at Tyson Foods, of Sioux Center. For the past eight years he was a Network Administrator at Diamond Vogel Paint in Orange City.
Tim was a member of the Maurice First Reformed Church since his marriage. In his free time he enjoyed playing cards, working on computers and spending time outdoors hunting and fishing with his family. He also found enjoyment in car races especially sprint cars at Knoxville, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Sherri Altena of Sioux Center; three children: Ashley Staples and her husband, Barry of Sioux Center, Rick Altena and Amber Altena both at home; parents, Don and Carol Altena of Sioux Center; brother and sister-in-law, Kent and Laura Altena of Polk City, IA; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Joan Dekker of Maurice; foster mother, Schera Kraft of Le Mars, IA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Brian and Chris Dekker of Sioux City as well as several nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts.
Tim is preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Margaret Altena, Gerrit and Ollie Bruxvoort and foster father, Dick Kraft.
