John William Feekes was born October 8, 1928 near Carmel, Iowa to William and Cornelia (Hulshof) Feekes. John married Jeanette Vonk on February 4, 1948 at the Carmel Reformed Church. After their marriage John and Jeanette farmed west of Sioux Center for a few years. They purchased a farm near Carmel, raising their children, feeding livestock and operating a dairy. John eventually got into trucking and dealing livestock.

In 1976, they sold the farm and moved to Rugby, North Dakota, where they were devoted full time to their business, Feekes Trucking & Cattle Company. While in Rugby, John grew his business with the involvement of family and friends. In 1986, they moved back to Sioux Center and continued the business until retirement in 1992. After retirement they lived in Sioux Center during the summer and Arizona during the winter, enjoying friends, family and life. Jeanette preceded John in death on March 15, 2009.

Over the years John was a member of Carmel Reformed Church and First Lutheran Church while living in Rugby. Family and friends will remember him as a devoted husband of 61 years with Jeanette, his great sense of wit, generous spirit and a firm focus when it came down to business.
