Ken R. Faber

January 20, 1945 — June 23, 2009

Ken Faber, 64, of Sioux Center died Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

A memorial services will be held Friday at 11AM at Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. R. Van Rathbun officiating. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

A prayer service will be held Friday at 9:45AM at Central Reformed Church.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 4-7PM with the family present from 5-7PM at Central Reformed Church.



Kenneth Faber was born on January 20, 1945 to William and Esther (Berkenpas) Faber near Ireton, Iowa. He was raised in Orange City, Iowa. He received his education through 8th grade at Orange City Christian School and graduated from Maurice-Orange City High School. Ken graduated from Sioux City Barber College in 1964. Ken operated the Elite Barber Shop for 40 years in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Ken married Janice Harriet (Vonk) on May 5, 1965. They spent most of their married life on an acreage outside of Sioux Center. Ken was a member of Central Reformed Church since 1966. In previous years, he had been a board member of the Sioux Center Saddle Club and the Sioux County Youth Fair. He loved fair time, racing cars, snowmobiling, camping, cutting wood, and anything outdoors. He especially enjoyed horseback riding trips in the Black Hills. Ken will be most remembered driving down Highway 75 in an old pickup truck with a dog by his side.

Survivors are his wife of 44 years, Janice (Vonk) Faber of Sioux Center; daughter, Suzanne (Faber) Kruid and husband Harlan of Sioux Center; sons, Craig Faber and wife Debra (Siemonsma) of Mountain Lake, MN and Michael Faber and wife Karri (Franken) of Sioux Center; 9 grandchildren: Eric and Samantha Foster, Jae, Jon and Joey Faber and Austin, Reese, Hope and Emma Faber; sister-in-laws, Gertrude Faber and Marilyn (Lorin) Schaefer both of Boyden, IA as well as his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harry and Marvin.
