Aart Den Hoed Sr.

Aart den Hoed Sr., 96, of Rock Valley, IA died Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Whispering Heights Care Center in Rock Valley.

A funeral service will be held Monday at 10AM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center with Rev. P.L. Bazen officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 1-8PM, with the family present from 6-8Pm at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

The den Hoed family requests no flowers, memorials are preferred to the Netherlands Reformed Christian School of Rock Valley.





Aart Willem den Hoed Sr. was born in Ridderkerk, The Netherlands to Willem and Cornelia (Lodder) den Hoed on March 14, 1912. He was raised and educated in the Netherlands. On May 10, 1935 he married Maria Noordlander. Maria preceded him in death on July 18, 2002. Aart and Maria immigrated to the United States as a young couple and were blessed with fifteen children.

Aart was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Church of Rock Valley.

Survivors include his five daughters: Corrie (John A.) Schelling of Sioux Center; Nanda (Nick) Ver Steeg of Visalia, CA; Mina Sly of Springfield, MO; Maria (Andy) Teunissen of Doon; Trudy (Rich) Carstens of Park Rapids, MN; ten sons: Bill (Gertie) den Hoed of Canton, SD; John (Diane) den Hoed of Putney, GA; Aart (Sharon) den Hoed of Quapaw, OK; Piet (Arlene) den Hoed of Davenport, IA; Arie (Betty) den Hoed of Rock Valley; Len (Trudy) den Hoed of Sioux Falls, SD; Abe (Shirley) den Hoed of Hull; Adrian den Hoed of Ft. Collins, CO; Leo (Elaine) den Hoed of Ft. Collins, Co; Walt (Lavonne) den Hoed of Hull;60 grandchildren,135 great grandchildren, 13 great, great grandchildrenand 1 great, great, great grandchild.

Aart is also survived by a brother, Abram den Hoed, sisters-in-law and extended family members all in the Netherlands.

In addition to his wife, Aart was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Angie den Hoed; his grandson, Ricky Carstens; his parents; four brothers and two sisters.
