Jean Mouw

Mrs. Jean Mouw, 80 of Sioux Center died Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at the Hawarden Community Hospital of Hawarden, IA.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 10:30AM at New Life Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Carl Boersma and Rev. Rick Van Ravenswaay officiating. Interment will follow the service in Pleasant Hill Cemetery of Ireton, IA.

Visitation will be held Friday from 4-8PM with the family present from 6-8PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

The Mouw Family prefers memorials be directed to the Hope Haven Foundation of Rock Valley, IA.





Selma "Jean" Mouw was born on September 5, 1928, to Charles & Ida (Katje) Westra in Ireton. As a child she attended school through the 8th grade. Later in her life she was extremely proud to have attained her high school GED diploma through NCC in Sheldon. Jean lived most of her life in the Ireton area.

Jean married Wallace J. Mouw on December 16, 1949. They farmed near Newkirk from 1949-1953 after which they purchased their farm east of Ireton and remained there until they retired to Sioux Center in 1996.

Jean & Wally were proud foster parents to 15 area kids for several years. They enjoyed traveling and were proud to say they had visited every state of the United States as well as Canada & the Caribbean. Jean was an avid crotchetier and made hundreds of afghans for family & friends.

Jean is survived by her husband of 59 years, Wally of Sioux Center; five children and spouses: Kent & Nancy Mouw of Ireton, Lynn & Eldon Nederhoff of Wellsburg, IA, Dean & Darlene Mouw of Jenison, MI, Gail & Greg De Wit of Rock Valley, Lea Ann & Verlyn Van Regenmorter of Sioux Center; 14 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother and his wife, Wes & Fann Westra of Ireton; sister-in-law and her husband, Jeanette & William Doppenberg and sister-in-law, Pauline Vander Zwaag, all of Orange City.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters-in-law, Morris & Wilma Mouw, Don & Irma Mouw and brother-in-law Jurry Vander Zwaag.
