EUNICE (HOEKSTRA) BRUMMEL, 88, of Hull, IA, died Thursday, December 11, 2008 at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 11AM at the Protestant Reformed Church of Hull, IA with Rev. Steven Key officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Hope Cemetery of Hull.

Visitation will be held Friday from 4-8PM with the family present from 6-8PM at the Protestant Reformed Church of Hull.

The Brummel Family prefers memorials be directed to Trinity Christian High School of Hull.





Eunice (Hoekstra) Brummel was born July 3, 1920 in Sheldon, Iowa, one of eleven children born to Peter and Florence (De Boer) Hoekstra. Eunice was raised on the family farm near Boyden, Iowa and attended the Boyden Christian School through the eighth grade.

On November 1, 1943 she was united in marriage to Gerrit Brummel in Hull, Iowa. Eunice and Gerrit farmed south of Hull where they raised their five children. Gerrit preceded Eunice in death on December 29, 1982; they had been married 39 years. Following Gerrits death Eunice settled in Hull. She was a member of the Hull Protestant Reformed Church.

Surviving are her five children and their spouses: Andrew and Mary Brummel of Grandville, MI, Peter and Judy Brummel of Hull, Gerald and Marilyn Brummel of Hull, Florence and Lee Vink of Rock Valley and John Brummel of Hull; 24 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren.

Eunice is also survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law: Ted and Harriet Hoekstra of Hull, Peter and Sharon Hoekstra of Kent City, MI, Henry and Hillie Hoekstra of Hull; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Bernice and Bert Van Maanen of Hull, Dorothy and Bill Mulder of Palm Springs, CA; a sister, Florence Brunsting of Hull; sisters-in-law: Margaret Hoekstra of Hull, Stella Hoekstra of Sheldon, Delia Vander Schaaf of Grand Rapids, MI, Marie Brummel of Hull and Tillie Brummel of Edgerton, MN along with her numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Eunice was preceded in death by son-in-law, Allen Driesen; her parents; four brothers: Martin, George, Don, John Hoekstra; three sisters-in-law: Greda Hoekstra, Mina Hoekstra, Nelva Hoekstra; one brother-in-law, Ray Brunsting.
