Arthur J. Schuiteman was born on the Schuiteman homestead on January 11, 1926, the son of John A. and Henrietta (Sandbulte) Schuiteman.
Arthur grew up on the Schuiteman homestead and graduated from country school. When the weather was bad his dad took him to school in a Model T Ford, the rest of the time he walked. He went on to graduate from Sioux Center High School in 1943. He was a member of the student council, serving as the treasurer. He was a member of the first Sioux Center High School basketball team that played in the State Basketball Tournament.
Arthur was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945 and was deployed to Italy following basic training. He was wounded during his tour of duty and was discharged in 1948. He married Frances De Zeeuw on June 7, 1948. For the next two years he was employed at the local John Deere dealership as bookkeeper and assistant manager.
In 1950, Arthur and Frances started farming on a farm purchased by his father, which was near the country school he attended as a child. He served as director of the country school until it was consolidated with Sioux Center schools. Arthur and Frances moved into Sioux Center in 2007, after residing on the same farm for 58 years.
Arthur was a life long member of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center and served as deacon for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion and served on the Coop Gas and Oil Board of Directors.
Through the years, Arthur developed a thriving farm business. In the 1960's the Farm Business Association hosted two farm tours on the Schuiteman farm.
