Cheryl Sandbulte

June 6, 1962 — December 15, 2008

Cheryl Sandbulte, 46, of Minneapolis, MN, formerly of Sioux Center, IA, died Monday, December 15, 2008 at the University Good Samaritan Center in Minneapolis.

A funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30AM at the Carmel Reformed Church of rural Rock Valley, with Rev. Mark Heijerman officiating. Interment will follow in Carmel Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 6-8PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.



Cheryl Fay Sandbulte was born June 6, 1962 in Sioux Center, Iowa, the daughter of Milton and Thelma (Van Berkum) Sandbulte. Cheryl was raised on the family farm north of Carmel, Iowa. It was clearly evident how at an early age, Cheryl embraced life. While growing up in the Carmel area, Cheryls childhood was filled with farm activities and getting into trouble with her siblings and cousins. She was raised attending the Carmel Reformed Church.

She was educated in Sioux Center and graduated from Sioux Center Community High School with the Class of 1980. While in high school Cheryl participated in cross-county, basketball, track and softball. She attended Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa for two years where she played on both the Morningside varsity womens basketball and softball teams.

As a young woman, Cheryl began working in the service and detail department at Ver Hoef Automotive in Sioux Center. She later moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she worked for John Morrell & Co. While in Sioux Falls she was a member of Good News Reformed Church.

Known by her friends as a dare devil, she often filled her leisure time camping, floating down the Rock River or playing slow pitch softball.

After being diagnosed with Huntingtons chorea, Cheryl lived in Le Mars, Iowa at the Plymouth Life Inc. More recently she received special care while as a resident of the University Good Samaritan Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Cheryl is survived by her daughter, Amanda Hansen of Graettinger, Iowa along with her three grandchildren: Kyla Hansen, Austin Hansen and James Richard at home at Graettinger; two brothers: Larry Sandbulte of Pella, IA and Kevin Sandbulte and his wife, Nohemi of Sioux Center; her sister, Christy Zeutenhorst and her husband, Darryl of Sioux Center and several nieces and nephews. Cheryl is also survived by her aunts, uncles, a host of cousins and many relatives.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Milt and Thelma Sandbulte; three brothers: Mike, Vic and Keith Sandbulte; her sister, Connie Dragstra and nephews, Jared Sandbulte and Jeff Sandbulte.
