Sena Lenters

September 2, 1930 — December 18, 2008



Sena Lenters, 78 of Sioux Center, Iowa went home to be with her Savior, Thursday, December 18 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. She was a resident at Kosgrove Assisted Living Facility.

A Memorial service will be held on Monday at 2PM at First Reformed Church, Sioux Center with the Reverend Roger Voskuil officiating. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service at Memorial Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

A prayer service will be held on Monday at 1:15PM at First Reformed Church.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-8PM, with the family present from 2-4PM at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

In lieu of flowers, the Lenters Family requests memorial donations be made to either CHEARS Home Health and Hospice of Sioux Center or Family Crisis Center of NW Iowa.



Sena Lenters was born on September 2, 1930, in McBain, Michigan. She was the daughter of Albert and Susan (Ellens) Meekhof.

Sena was married to Rev. Harold Lenters on August 8, 1950. Together, they faithfully served congregations in Woodstock, Minnesota, Beaverdam, Michigan, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Clearwater, Florida, Ireton, Iowa, and Byron Center, Michigan, before finally returning to Sioux Center, Iowa to carry on their ministry.

Sena was very active in the work of the church. She and Harold served as youth leaders. She enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher and a bible study leader. Sena was known for her exceptional hospitality to the church congregation, to visiting missionaries, and to the community. She and Harold enjoyed traveling in their motor home and going on many trips with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Harold Lenters; infant son Samuel; brother-in-law, Harvey Moes and sister-in-law Ethel Meekhof.

She is survived by her loving and grateful children: Stephen and Ethel Lenters of Sioux Center, Iowa, Sandy and Daryl Holtrop of Maurice, Iowa, Alison and Marlys Lenters of Maurice, Iowa, Leah and Douglas Dykema of Holland, Michigan, SuAnn and James Bruggink of Byron Center, Michigan, Jenna and James Mumm of Hartley, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; her siblings: Melvin and Winifred Meekhof of Hudsonville, Michigan, Sidney and Janice Meekhof of Zeeland, Michigan, Anna Mae and Ernest Talsma of Zeeland, Michigan, and Roger and Delores Meekhof of Hudsonville, Michigan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Senas legacy is the love and the nurturing spirit that she so willingly and faithfully showed to her family and so many others. She will always be remembered for her wit and adventurous spirit.
