Goldie De Jager, 72, of Sioux Center, IA; formerly of Maurice, IA, died Thursday, November 13, 2008 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 10:30AM at Maurice First Reformed Church of Maurice, IA with Rev. Wayne Sneller and Rev. Mark Haverdink officiating. Interment will follow in Sherman Township Cemetery of rural Maurice.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-8PM, with the family present from 2-4PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
Goldie (Vonk) De Jager was born on June 26, 1936 to Ben & Jennie (Katze) Vonk on a farm near Sioux Center, Iowa. She received an education through the 8th grade at country school, Center #4.
Goldie met B. Duane De Jager in January of 1956, and five months later they were married in Sioux Center on June 15, 1956. They lived in Ft. Rucker, Alabama for two years while Duane was in the Army. From 1958-1968 they farmed near Rock Valley, Iowa. They settled in their home in Maurice, Iowa. Goldie and Duane were happily married for 44 years until Duane passed away on January 21, 2001. Goldie then moved to Royal Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.
Goldie was a member of the Maurice First Reformed Church. She enjoyed selling Avon, Watkins and Fuller Brush products. She loved her family, enjoyed traveling, embroidery work and a good game of cards.
Goldie is survived by five daughters: Rhonda De Jager of Orange City, Jeanne and Dennis Van Roekel of Maurice,Roxanne and Jason Mars of Orange City, Rachalle and Evan Kraayenbrink of Sioux Center, Renietta and Charles W. Obrecht of Harlan, IA.; her 13 grandchildren: Tiffany Campbell, Janie and Dan Haack, Monty and Malinda Van Roekel, Lane Mars, Jessica Mars, Rebecca and Jeff Kroese, Anna Kraayenbrink, Sarah Kraayenbrink, Josiah Kraayenbrink, Olivia Kraayenbrink, Reanna Obrecht, Ryleigh Obrecht and Cheyenne Obrecht; 4 great grandchildren: Aaliyah Campbell, Nash Haack, Sterling Haack and Easton Kroese; two brothers and sisters-in-law: George and Chris Vonk, of Sioux Center and Eugene and Judy Vonk, of Ireton;four sisters and brothers-in-law: Jeanette and John Feekes of Hawarden, Gertrude and Elmer Van De Berg of Sioux Center, Kathy and Harold Vande Kieft of Orange City, Dorothy and Andy Van Bochove of Sun City, AZ; three sister-in-laws: Winn Vonk of Sioux Center, Donna Vonk of Sioux Center and Gertrude Vonk of Mountain Lake, MN; along withnumerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Goldie was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sister in-laws: Henry Vonk, Ben Vonk, Pete Vonk, Gerrit and Jennie Vonk and Henrietta Vonk.
