Leonard R. Nyhof, 73, of Sioux Center died suddenly on Wednesday, September 3 at a farm in OBrien County due to a massive heart attack.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11am at the Faith Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Bernie Haan officiating. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
A prayer service will be held Saturday at 10am at the Faith Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2pm-8pm, with the family present from 6-8pm at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

Leonard R. Nyhof was born on January 25, 1935 to Gerrit and Gertrude Nyhof (Vande Kieft) on a farm near Ireton, IA and grew up on a farm near Sioux Center. He attended country school until the 7th grade and then finished his primary education at Sioux Center Christian. He graduated from Western Christian High School in 1954. He was united in marriage on March 16, 1956 to Myna Hulstein in Sioux Center. They were blessed with four children, two boys and two girls.
Len served his country in the US Army from 1957-1963. He was an essential part of organizing the Army National Guard unit in Sioux Center in the late 70s.
Len spent most of his employment years working for himself. He owned and operated Nyhof Turf and Trail in Sioux Center from 1965-1981. In 1984, he purchased the Culligan dealership in Orange City and owned and operated that dealership until he semi-retired in 1996 and sold the dealership to his daughter and son-in-law. In his retirement years, Len worked in various jobs including his own Handy Man business.
He was an active member of Faith CRC of which he was a charter member. His was previously a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. He served several terms as both elder and deacon. Len had a deep faith in his Savior Jesus Christ.
Len was also involved over the years in many community and mission projects. He was an area manager for CRWRC Disaster Response Team. As a couple, Len and Myna enjoyed serving in this capacity.
Len loved being a part of any activity that involved his children and grand-children. He rarely missed an opportunity to be involved in any activity that was important to his family.
Blessed to have shared his life is his wife of 52 years, Myna; two sons and daughters-in-law: Leo and Pam and their children Dan, Jennifer and Morgan Macek and Travis Nyhof of Kalamazoo, MI; Lyle and Alice and their children, Austin, Lisa, and Leah Nyhof and Amy, Aaron, and Aalijah Moss of Sioux Center; two daughters and sons-in-law: Lora and Jess Elliott and their sons Ryan and Mitch Eisma of Sioux Falls, SD; Linda and Shon Oertel and children Amber, Tyler, and Lexie of Orange City; 9 step-grandchildren: Nick, Casey, and Hunter Elliott of Rapid City, SD, Stacy, David, Raylynn, Riley, and Dawson Laible of Howard, SD, and Dawn Elliott and her son, Brady of Watertown, SD.
Other survivors include his brother and his wife, Gilmer and Gladyce of Sioux Center; six sisters and their husbands, Carol and Marvin Harmelink of Alton, Lavonne and Neil Quirin of Alta, IA; Vel and Abe Flory of Paso Robles, CA; Marlys and Duane Hansen of Ferndale, WA and Myra and Don Smit of Alamosa, CO; and Betty and Merlin De Groot of Sheldon, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Brad Eisma.
