John Kosters died of natural causes August 2, 2008 at Rock Rapids Health Center in Rock Rapids, IA.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30am, Tuesday August 5, 2008 At Memory Gardens in Sioux Center, IA. He will be buried near the Kosters family plot. The Kosters family originally homesteaded in Sioux Center, IA.
John was born on September 24, 1952 in Everett, Washington to Gerrit W. (Bill) and Kathryn Kosters.
John worked as a boil maker welder for a couple years and then became a pipe fitter/welder. He worked several big jobs such as the Trans-Alaskan oil pipeline, large refineries, power plants etc.
John was always very athletic. As a boy he rode tall unicycles, and as he grew older enjoyed boating, water and snow skiing and even skied on the Alps in Europe in both Switzerland and Austria. John also enjoyed his Harley and drag racing.
John was in a serious one-vehicle accident on September 24, 1982. He was in a coma for several months, and his life was never the same. He became a quadriplegic and even though he was mentally impaired, he still had a quick wit and good sense of humor and enjoyed visiting with people.
He is survived by his brothers Gary (Gerrit W.) of Reno, NV and Arlan Kosters of Monroe, WA and a sister Kathleen (Marvin) Kaptein of Rock Valley, IA, 2 children Jenna Johnson of Snohomish, WA and Jeremy Kosters of Mattawa, WA, and 3 grandsons: Jacob, William and Dalton.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Kathryn Kosters.
