Thurlow Beimers

Thurlow Beimers, 74, of Sioux Center, IA died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Spirit Lake, IA.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday at 2PM at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will be held prior to the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

A prayer service will be held Saturday at 1PM at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

Visitation will be held Friday from 4pm to 8pm, with the family present from 6:30pm to 8pm at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

In leiu of flowers the Beimers Family prefers memorials to Unity Christian High School or Sioux Center Christian School.



Thurlow Lloyd was born on February 4, 1934 to Ed and Allie (Knuebel) Beimers. He attended the Orange City and Sioux Center Christian Schools. In 1951, he graduated from the Sioux Center High School. He served his country in the US Army Signal Corp for two years.

On December 26, 1956 he married Evelyn Shirley Vandraager in Tucson, AZ. The day after his high school graduation, "Beim" was hired at Mutual Telephone Company in Sioux Center where he diligently worked for 49 years.

He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports, following the activities of his grandchildren, and visiting and emailing his friends and family. He very much looked forward to the annual family vacation to Northern Minnesota, which he just enjoyed earlier this month. In their retirement years Beim and Evie enjoyed their condo in Spirit Lake.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years; a son and his wife, Terry and Mary Beimers of Sioux Center; three daughters Pam and Howard Vander Schaaf of Alton, lA, Lisa and Mike Hilbelink of Temecula, CA, and Jill Shepard of Solona Beach, CA; grandchildren: Wendy and Mike Poppema, Evan and Jennifer Beimers, Kimberly Beimers, Joshua Vander Schaaf and his fianc: Brianne Stahowski, Justin and Angela Vander Schaaf, Jordan Vander Schaaf, and Riley Shepard; 3 great-granddaughters Jaci, Peyton, and Kinzie Poppema; sister-in-law Jeannie Van Der Vliet of Hospers; and brother-in -law Wein Vander Zwaag of Orange City.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Katherine, and her husband, Robert Malisch, and Alvina Vander Zwaag; his twin brother, Lloyd Thurlow Beimers, and an infant brother, John Beimers.
