Arthur Brenneman

Arthur Brenneman, 83, of Sioux Center, IA died Friday, March 7, 2008 at the Akron Care Center in Akron, IA.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2pm at the First Reformed church of Sioux Center with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

A prayer service will be held Tuesday at 1:15pm at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

Visitation will be held Monday from 2pm to 8pm, with the family present from 6pm to 8pm at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

Arthur William Brenneman was born on May 20, 1924 to Herman and Grace (Schuiteman) Ennema in Sioux Center, IA. Art grew up and attended country school south of Sioux Center. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII for two years, one of which was in Japan. Upon his discharge, he returned to farming south of town.

On December 29, 1948 Art married Joan Vander Schaaf at First Reformed Church. The newlyweds resided one mile west of Sioux Center where they lived and raised their two children, Arvin and Jeanine. In 2001, they moved to the Regency in Sioux Center. He was a faithful member of First Reformed Church.

Art was known for his hearty laugh and entertaining stories. He enjoyed farming, watching sports and playing games, especially with his grandchildren. Art enjoyed attending school events of his children and grandchildren, and also traveling to visit his family.

Surviving are his wife Joan of 59 years; one son and daughter-in-law, Arv and Shelly Brenneman of Sioux Center; one daughter and son-in-law Jeanine and Sergei Pidukov of Bentonville, AR; along with seven grandchildren: Pam, Josh, Stacey and Adam Bradshaw, Heather, Tonya, Austin, and Nikki and one great-grandchild, Jace William. Art is also survived by three sisters and one brother-in-law: Wilmina Wynia, Bertha Vermeer, Anna Mae and Don Broek and two brothers and one sister-in-law: Andrew Brenneman and Herm and Adeline Brenneman and one sister-in-law, Louise Vander Schaaf all of Sioux Center, IA and several nieces and nephews.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Jane; an infant granddaughter, Jill and daughter-in-law, Jan Brenneman. He was also preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Tracy and John Hoogland; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Henry and Ardene Vander Schaaf; two sisters-in-law: Nettie Vander Schaaf and Joanne Brenneman and four brothers-in-law: Martin Wynia, Harvey Vermeer, John and Andrew Vander Schaaf.
