GERRIT J. KRAAYENBRINK, 93, of Sioux Center, IA died Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:30am at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Mark Verbruggen officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Visitation will be held Monday at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center from 4pm to 8pm, with the family present from 6pm to 8pm.

The Kraayenbrink Family prefers memorials to Royale Meadows Care Center, c/o Sioux Center Community Hospital Foundation.

Gerrit John Kraayenbrink was born December 14, 1914 to William and Dena (Nyman) Kraayenbrink on a farm north of Sioux Center, Iowa. At the age of five, Gerrit moved with his parents to a home located on the west side of Sioux Center. This home is where Gerrit lived most all of his life.

Gerrit attended the Sioux Center Christian School and was a life long member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. He married Alla Klein on July 26, 1955 in Sioux Center.

He was employed at the Sioux Center Creamery and later worked as a carpenter for over twenty years with De Stigter Bros. Construction and Arend T. Wassink Construction.

Gerrit liked gardening and growing potatoes, and especially enjoyed tending to his lawn.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alla Kraayenbrink of Sioux Center; five nieces: Aldine (Bill) Van Regenmorter, Wilma (Bill) Brantsen, Bertha (Pete) Mol, Arta Zevenbergen and Goldene (Sherm) Wissink all of Sioux Center; along with his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Grace Klein and sister-in-law, Mina Klein all of Sioux Center.

Gerrit was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters: Johanna (Louis) Achterhof, Minnie (John C.) Klein, Jennie Kraayenbrink, Bertha Kraayenbrink, two in infancy; a nephew, James Achterhof (killed in WWII); a niece, Lucille (Bill) Lammers and nieces husband, Marion Zevenbergen.
