David Dean Bomgaars was born on October 17, 1949 to John A. and Jenny (Vander Zwaag) Bomgaars in Hull, Iowa. He was raised on a farm near Middleburg, Iowa where he enjoyed learning every kind of farm work and activity from his father.

He graduated from the Sioux Center High School in 1967. While there, he enjoyed participating in the FFA judging competitions, and was a member of the national honor society. His yearbook picture is captioned, It used to be a good car, but that proves nothing, I used to be a good boy.

After high school, he attended Northwestern College. On August 7, 1970, Dave married his high school sweetheart, Colleen Cleveringa at Carmel Reformed Church. The couple farmed near Middleburg from 1970 to 1977, and then moved to Colleens home place near Carmel. Dave worked in several capacities while continuing to farm including Sioux Preme Packing, Tyson Foods, and Quick to Fix.

Dave served on several boards as a young farmer including The Farm Bureau Board and the Pork Producers Board. He was a member of the Free Grace Reformed Church in Middleburg until 1977, then joined Carmel Reformed Church. At Carmel, he served as a Sunday School teacher, Catechism teacher, an RCYF sponsor, and on the Consistory as both a deacon and elder. Dave was known to be friendly, giving, and welcoming to everyone he met.

Dave loved to spend time with his family and was known as the parent who came to every school activity. He was especially interested in watching his kids play basketball and football. He helped organize many AAU basketball games for each of their teams and was the first to congratulate and encourage from the stands. He also enjoyed family vacations to Okoboji, swimming, water skiing, camping, gardening, and working on the farm with his family.

Left to cherish memories of Dave are his loving wife, Colleen who he affectionately called Coke since high school; four children: Tim Bomgaars and his wife, Julie (Fern) who live on Daves family farm near Middleburg, Melanie Pottebaum and her husband, Alan of Sioux Center, Dr. Mike Bomgaars and his wife, Nikki (Wielenga) of Boyden, and Shelly Dirksen and her husband, Eric currently of Grand Rapids, MI; four sisters: Janice (Bomgaars) McMurray and her husband, Ken of Cedar Rapids, IA; Carol (Bomgaars) Groeneweg and her husband, Wally of Sioux Center, Linda (Bomgaars) Eastlick of Spirit Lake, and Paula (Bomgaars) Krumm of Sunnyvale, CA. Dave is also survived by 14 grandchildren and one on the way.

Dave was welcomed to Heaven by his parents.
