Davis Roelofs

Davis M. Roelofs, 98, of Sioux Center, IA died Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 19th at 11am at Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. R. Van Rathbun officiating. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

A prayer service will be held Saturday, January 19th at 10am at Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 18th at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center from 2-8pm, with the family present from 6-8pm.

The Roelofs Family prefers memorials be directed to Church World Service, c/o Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

Davis Roelofs was born October 31, 1909, in Lismore, Minnesota. His parents were Dick and Dena (De Graaf) Roelofs. At age seven his family moved to Sioux Center, Iowa. He received his education in the Sioux Center schools, Northwestern Junior College, and graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa.

Davis married Margaret Dykshorn in 1935 at Fairview, South Dakota. They moved to their home in Sioux Center where he was employed by the Farmer's Lumber Co. Davis later joined in a partnership with Art Vande Berg to establish a general store. Upon Art's retirement, he became sole owner of the Roelofs Store.

He was active in the Sioux Center Civic Club and served as the treasurer for 33 years. He also served on the Sioux County Conservation Board for 21 years.

Davis was a member of Central Reformed Church, serving as Sunday School superintendent, teacher, deacon, and elder. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing, and spent much of his time reading.

Survivors include: his wife of 72 years, Margaret Roelofs of Sioux Center; five children: Darlene and Marion Mouw of Sioux Center, Bill and Dixie Roelofs of Sioux Center, Jim and Merry Lynn Roelofs of Baxter, Minnesota, Mary and Steve Chapman of Lakewood, Colorado, and Norma and Ron Vande Bunte of South River, New Jersey; one brother and sister-in-law, Stan and Pauline Roelofs of Wheaton, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Jane Roelofs of San Diego, California; eleven grand children and 14 great grand children.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Edith Roelofs; brother, Harvey Roelofs; an infant sister, Jeanette Roelofs; two infant grandchildren, Michael and Marianne Mouw; and one infant great grandson, Ty Kristopher Lynk.
