HARVEY J. VERMEER, 89, of Sioux Center, IA died Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 10:30am at First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Reverend David Sikkema officiating. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

A prayer service will be held Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 9:45am at First Reformed Church Chapel.

Visitation will be held Friday at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center from 28pm with the family present from 6-8pm.

Harvey Vermeer was born on February 9, 1918 to Jacob H. and Anna (Huitink) Vermeer in Sioux Center. He was raised in Sioux County and received his education through the 12th grade at Sioux Center High School. He also attended National Business College in Sioux City for 1 year.

Harvey married Johanna H. Vermeer on June 25, 1941 in a garden ceremony at the Brides farm home. Harvey worked for the Sioux City Tribune and several other places as a bookkeeper. He also owned and managed Vermeer Self Serve grocery store in Sioux Center for several years.

Harvey was a life long member of the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center where he was active in Mens Fellowship group and the Adult Choir. He also enjoyed singing bass with the Vermeer quartet. For several years Harvey made plaques for those who made their profession of faith. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Sioux Center Christian School.

In his early life he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He always enjoyed playing cards and table games with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed visits from his children and grandchildren.

Harvey is lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years Johanna of Sioux Center; four children, Helene (Bob) Schuiteman of Sheldon, IA, Joyce (David) Sikkema of Luverne, MN, Dorothy Burns (and special friend Mike Voortman) of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Daniel (Barb) Vermeer of Lookout Mountain, GA.; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and his brother, Henry J. Vermeer of Pella, IA.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Jacklin Hale Vermeer and his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and George Addison of Ft. Walton Beach. FL. and sister-in-law, Alberta Vermeer.
