Louise Vander Vliet was born June 22, 1920 to John and Ella (Franken) Niessink, three miles east of Sioux Center, Iowa. At the age of three her family moved to a farm one mile east of Sioux Center, where Louise lived until her marriage to Gerrit Vander Vliet on January 30, 1946. Following their marriage, Louise and Gerrit farmed near Maurice, Iowa for two years. They then began farming the Niessink Family Farm east of Sioux Center. Gerrit preceded her in death on July 30, 1968 at the age of 52. Louise continued to reside on their farm until settling into her apartment at Crown Pointe in 2001. After suffering a stroke in August of 2006 she became a resident of Royale Meadows Care Center.

Louise was known as an excellent seamstress and for her beautiful crocheted and knitted items. Over the years she made many mittens, caps and quilts which she donated to the needy.

Her grandchildren will always remember her for all the cookies and games she shared with them. She continued to enjoy games and puzzles with her acquaintances at Crown Pointe. Louise was a life-long member of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

Louise is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Harlyn and Kathlene Vander Vliet of Sheldon; son, Gregory Vander Vliet of Whitensville, Massachusetts; two daughters and sons-in-law: Susan and Anthony Bonnema of Sioux Center and Eileen and Norman Krull of George; along with her twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
