James "Jim" Vermeer

JAMES JIM VERMEER, 65, of Sioux Center, IA died Friday, 11/3, at the Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.

A memorial service will be held for Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at 2pm at New Life Reformed Church with Rev. Carl Boersma officiating. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service at Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

A prayer service will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at 1pm at the Memorial Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held at New Life Reformed Church of Sioux Center Monday, November 6, 2006 from 2-8pm with family present from 6-8pm.

Memorials may be directed to the New Life Reformed Church Building Fund.

James A. Vermeer, 65, of Sioux Center died of complications brought on by cancer at the Royal Meadows Nursing Home in Sioux Center. Jim was born on September 23, 1941 in Sioux Center, the son of Ted and Janet (Bosveld) Vermeer. He grew up in Sioux Center, attended Northwestern College and The University of Iowa, graduated with a degree in education. In 1962, he married Laura De Blauw. He taught school and coached basketball in Alton, Iowa at the Floyd Valley School District for 10 years. He then began a career with The New York Life Insurance Company in Sioux Center.

In 1985, he married Barbara Vermeer. Jim was involved in many community activities including Lions Club, Kiwanis, Centennial Planning and Pheasants Forever. He was a man of many interests and enjoyed hunting, fishing, picnicing at Oak Grove County Park and especially golfing with his friends. He was also very proud to be a grandfather.

Jim is survived by his wife, Barbara of Sioux Center, two sons: Jason Vermeer and his wife, Heather, and Aaron Vermeer and wife, Jennifer all from Des Moines; two step-children: Nikolyn Kredit and her husband, Roger and Joshua Vermeer and his wife, Kimberly all from Sioux Center; 9 grandchildren; two brothers: Lou and his wife, Stephanie from Sand Point, Idaho and Robert and his wife, Carolin from Sioux Center, two sisters: Theo Klimstra and husband, Gene of Iowa City, IA and Mesa, AZ and Jan Beals and husband, Roger from Battle Lake, MN; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Wilma Mouw of Orange City; 4 brothers-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Calvin Mouw.
