William "Bill" Plantage

William Bill Plantage, 79, of Sioux Center, Iowa died unexpectedly Saturday, November 4, 2006 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

A memorial Service will be held Tuesday at 10:30am at the Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. R. Van Rathbun officiating. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

A prayer service will be held Tuesday at 9:30 at the Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

Visitation will be held Monday from 2pm to 8pm, with the family present from 6pm to 8pm at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

The Plantage Family prefers memorials to Hope Haven Wheel Chair Ministries or Sioux Center Ambulance Squad.

William Edward Plantage or Bill as friends and family knew him, suddenly went home to be with his Lord on Nov.4, 2006 at his home in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Born in Lyon County, Iowa on January 8, 1927 to Wm. E. and Sadie (Nieuwsma) Plantage, Bill lived his entire life in Sioux Center, Iowa. He graduated from high school and entered the U.S. Army serving from 1945-46. Bill and Esther (Koerselman) celebrated 55 wonderful years together this past summer as they were married on June 8, 1951. Bill had a variety of jobs, working at Juffer Produce, Ver Hoef Chevrolet, Sioux Center Community Schools, and for the city of Sioux Center. He was employed by the U.S.D.A. as an egg products inspector for over 25 years. Wherever Bill worked, he made good lasting relationships and especially enjoyed befriending and mentoring young people.

Bill was a lifelong member of Central Reformed Church where he served as both deacon and elder. He was active in the American Legion for 60 years serving on its voluntary color-guard unit. His passions included fishing, enjoying a morning coffee at the office, and especially attending and cheering loudly at his grandchildrens sporting events.

Left to cherish many memories of Bill are his wife Esther, daughter Anita Bomgaars and her husband Dr. David C. Bomgaars of Orange City and son Brent J. Plantage and wife Lori (De Stigter) of Sioux City. The group that will always remember his love and affection for them are his grandchildren, Megan R. (Bomgaars) and husband Benjamin R. Roos of Iowa City, Christopher D. Bomgaars of New Orleans, LA, Curtis Wm. R. Bomgaars of Orange City , as well as Airman First Class Dillon J. Plantage currently stationed in San Angelo, TX and Drew J. Plantage of Sioux City. Bill will be missed by his only sibling, Betty Dornbush of Huron, SD and his in-laws Gary and Leona Koerselman, Gerdena Wissink and Cliff and Verda Koerselman.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and parents-in-law, Gerrit and Emma Koerselman, 4 brothers-in-law, 2 sisters-in-law, Cornie and Elizabeth Koerselman, Marion Wissink, Bill and Teneva Kroon and Gene Dornbush.
