William Bill Godsey, 88, of Sioux Center, Iowa died unexpectedly Monday, November 20, 2006 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.
A funeral service will be held Friday, November 24th, at 10:30am in the Chapel of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center, with Rev. Roger Voskuil and Rev. Paul Den Herder officiating.
A graveside service will be held Friday, November 24th, at 3pm at the Sloan Cemetery of Sloan, Iowa.
Visitation will be held on Friday prior to the service from 9am to 10:30am at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center.
William Donald Godsey was born on June 18, 1918 in North Bend, NE, the son of Bernard and Bertha (Fisher) Godsey. He graduated from Sloan High School in 1937 and was a graduate of Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1947.
He proudly served his country in WWII in the 20th Armored Division in the US Army from September 1941 through December 1945.
On August of 1945 he married Marilyn Lord in Sloan, IA. They lived in Peterson, IA where he was the Vocational Agriculture teacher. A daughter, Linda, was born in 1947. They moved to Sloan, IA to farm. Marilyn died in October of 1949. On October 24, 1952 Bill married Mary Leamer. They had three children Ann, Char, and Robert. The family moved to Sioux Center in 1957. Bill taught for the Sioux Center School District. He was a Veterans Agriculture instructor and later became the Vocational Agriculture teacher and the FFA Advisor for 30 years.
Bill enjoyed golfing with his friends and had a passion for gardening. He loved caring for his sheep, geese and dog Sam (Poo-cha). He was a member of the ISU Alumni Association, the American Legion and the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Mary of 54 years; four children and their spouses, Linda and Jack Frisbie of Maryville, MO, Ann and Paul Den Herder of Haslett, MI, Char and Michael Baltes of Ankeny, IA. Robert Godsey of Bloomington, IL; twelve grandchildren, Jennifer Frisbie, Susan Frisbie, Jackie Frisbie, Lindsey Frisbie, Jesse Den Herder and wife Tara, Bethany (Den Herder) and husband Shannon Scholten, Kristen (Den Herder) and husband Jeremy Mason, John Den Herder, Matt Baltes and wife, Sharon, Michelle (Baltes) and husband Dave Breitwisch, Heather (Godsey) and husband Rodd Caldwell, Melissa (Godsey) and husband Clint Smith; two great-grandchildren, Garrett Smith and William Baltes.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn; parents, Bernard Godsey and Bertha Brady and his brother, Robert Godsey.
