Lucy Van Voorst, 82, of Rock Rapids, Iowa formerly of Sioux Center, died Wednesday September 13, 2006 at the Rock Rapids Heath Centre of Rock Rapids.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday September 16, 2006 at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center at 2:00pm with the Rev. Cliff Hoekstra officiating. Interment will follow at the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
Visitation will be held Friday September 15, 2006 at Memorial Funeral Home from 2-8pm with family present 6:30-8pm.
The Van Voorst family prefers memorials be directed to the North Central States Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society
Lucy (Vant Hul) Van Voorst was born January 29, 1924 to John and Clara (Bakker) Vant Hul in Doon, Iowa. She attended Rock Valley schools through the eighth grade.
Lucy was united in marriage to Richard G. Van Voorst on April 22, 1944, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. After their marriage the couple made their home in Sioux Center, where Lucy worked as a cook and baker for 25 years at Carrie Foods on the campus of Dordt College.
While in Sioux Center, Lucy was a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church. She was active with the Harmony Circle and The World Bible League. After Richards death, Lucy moved to Rosewood Heights in Rock Rapids, Iowa and became a member of the Christian Reformed Church of Rock Rapids.
Lucy will be remembered for her loving, giving attitude. She enjoyed sending greeting cards to brighten peoples day, and show her care and concern.
Lucy is survived by three children; Gary and Claire Van Voorst of Brandon, SD, Donna and Rickie Niessink of Rock Rapids, IA, Jolene and Herlan Zomer of Canton, SD; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Eileen and Hans Van Voorst of Sioux Center, Bernice and Harold Zellmer of Le Mars, IA; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Jerry and Linda Vant Hul of Sheldon, IA, Clarence and Marlene Vant Hul of Colorado Springs, CO; sister-in-law, Alvina Vant Hul of Rock Valley and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Richard; her parents; an infant daughter, Judy; a sister, Fannie Westhuis and brother, Bernard Vant Hul.
