E. John Kosters, 97, of Sioux Center, Iowa died Saturday, 8/12, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.



Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 8/16, at 10am at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Mark Verbruggen officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.



Visitation will be held Tuesday, 8/15, from 2pm to 8pm, with the family present from 6pm to 8pm at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.


Mr. E. John Kosters, age 97, passed away and entered the presence of his Lord on August 12, 2006. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 48 years, Alyda (DeStigter) Kosters and his children: Joy and Dr. Peter DeBoer of Grand Rapids, MI, John and Shirley Kosters of Broomfield, CO, and Jenean and Ken Doornink of Sioux Center; his grandchildren: Bonnie (Ron) Nyenhuis, Dr. Walter (Jesslyn) DeBoer, Peter (Nancy) DeBoer and Susan (Orland) Baas, Denise (Ron) Vander Ploeg, Mike (Caron) Kosters, Kim (Tim) Bylsma and Kevin (Marnie) Kosters, Jeff (Carla) Smith, Joel Smith, and Julie (Frank) Vita, Polly (Rod) Visser, Gerb (Bernice) Doornink and Kit (Kathy) Doornink; and his 31 great-grandchildren.



E. John, owner and operator of Kosters Repair and Manufacturing Company in Sioux Center, served his church and community faithfully. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church for 70 years. He served on his church council for 12 years as either a deacon or elder. He was a member of the Christian School board for 8 years. He served as a Sioux Center city councilman for almost 38 years. He was a member of the Sioux Center Fire Department for 28 years, including 18 years as fire chief. In 1988, he retired from the Recreation arid Arts Council having served since its formation in 1967. He was on the original Community Hospital board and served many years.



E. John was preceded in death by his parents, Anna (Zomermaand) Kosters and Jan Kosters, his first wife, Josephine (Van Engen) Kosters, step father, Arie Franken, granddaughter Jeanne Susan DeBoer, by step-sisters: Hattie Van Engen, Artie Jacobsma, Ella Brandsen, Lucille Wierda and by step-brothers: Henry Kosters, Gerrit Franken, and Everett Franken. He is survived by step brothers: Henry (Delia) Franken of Sioux Center and Joe Franken of Spirit Lake, IA; also by many dear relatives and friends.



Through his second marriage his family was enlarged and blessed. He is survived by sisters-in-law: Florence Kalsbeek of Orange City, Lucille (Norm) Poel of Grand Rapids, MI, Mina DeStigter Sioux Center, Cecelia DeStigter Escondido, CA and Elaine DeStigter of Grand Rapids, MI and by brothers-in-law: Leonard (Ella) DeStigter of Sioux Center and Cornelius (Penny) DeStigter of Livonia, MI.
