Shirley J. Hartman

January 23, 1938 — July 20, 2006

Shirley J. Hartman 68, of Maurice, IA died Thursday, July 20, 2006 at the Mercy Medical Center of Sioux City.



Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 24, 2006 at the First Reformed Church of Maurice at 10:30am with the Reverend Mark Haverdink officiating. Interment will follow at the Sherman Township Cemetery of Maurice.



Visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Home Sunday, July 23, 2006 from 2-8pm with family present from 2-4pm.


Shirley Joyce Hartman was born January 23, 1938 to Cornelius and Elizabeth (Vermeer) Hulstein at Hawarden, Iowa. Shirleys family settled near Sioux Center where she attended school.



On August 8, 1957 she was united in marriage to Darrell Gene Hartman in Sioux Center. Darrell and Shirley were blessed with four children. They made their home in Amarillo, Texas and later In Maurice where Shirley worked at the Million Dollar Lunch and the Maurice Caf.



Over the years Shirley had been active with the Maurice Booster Club and assisted with the Maurice Centennial celebration. Shirley loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and outdoor activities. She looked forward to the camping season each year, when she and Darrell would spend time at Yankton or the Lakes. Shirley also was an active collector of porcelain dolls.



Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 48 years, Darrell Hartman of Maurice; three daughters: Clara Renken of Merrill; Bonnie Epling and her husband, Joel of Le Mars; Pamela Hartman of North Fort Myers, FL; a son, Jeff Hartman of Maurice along with her nine grandchildren: Justin, Sarah and Taylor Renken, Neil Epling, Amber Hartman, Oceana Gutierrez, Kimberly and Zachary Shriver, Toby Hartman. Shirley is also survived by a sister, Cornelia Wiersma of Ft. Atkinson, WI and numerous nieces and nephews.



Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Gerrit Hulstein, Raymond Hulstein, Edward Hulstein, Harold Hulstein and infant brother and three sisters: Gertrude Brunsting, Esther Lems and infant sister.
