Marion Zevenbergen

January 10, 1926 — July 22, 2006

MARION ZEVENBERGEN, 80, of Sioux Center, Iowa died Saturday evening, 7/22, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.



A memorial service will be held Wednesday, 7/26, at 11am at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.



A prayer service will be held Wednesday morning at 10am at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.



Visitation will be held Tuesday, 7/25, from 2pm to 8pm, with the family present from 6pm to 8pm at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.




Marion Arthur Zevenbergen was born on January 10, 1926 to William and Fanny (Hagens) Zevenbergen in Newkirk, Iowa. He was raised near Hospers, and received education through 8th grade at Newkirk. He served in the military during World War II in the European Theatre.



On December 15, 1949, Marion married Arta Klein at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. They lived on farms near Newkirk and Middleburg, and lived nearly forty years on a farm north of Sioux Center where they operated a motel and campground, as well as worked in home construction.



Marion was a member of First Christian Reformed Church most of his life, where he was very involved in church activities. He served on the board of Western Christian High School, and on the original Rural Water Board that developed the rural water systems around Northwest Iowa.



His hobbies were centered around his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling with Arta to visit them. He enjoyed woodworking, and camping and fishing especially with his grandchildren. He was passionate about his faith, his family, his church, and Christian Education.



Those surviving to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years Arta Zevenbergen; four children and their spouses and 12 grandchildren: Eloise and Merwin Rylaarsdam of Alamosa, CO (Amy and Robert Notar, Aaron and Aley, and Austin), Ken and Nancy of Phoenix, AZ (Malinda and Andrew Novack, Grant, Sarah, and Brian), Glen and LouAnn of Sioux Falls, SD (Michael and Kayla, and Jackie), Dale and Tammy of Sioux Center (Jenna, Kylee and Raya); 2 great grandchildren, Scott Notar and Brooklyn Zevenbergen; his brothers and their wives, Art and Betty of Little Rock, IA, Allen and Tylene of Sioux City, IA; and a sister-in-law, Gert Zevenbergen of Hull.



He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John; two sisters-in-law, Jacoba and Esther; and two grandsons, Matthew and Evan.
