Charles H. Charlie Niessink was born Feb 14, 1921 to Henry and Mary (Kuhl) Niessink. He was born and raised on his parents farm. He continued to live in the very same home until last October when he became a resident of the Nursing Home. He attended West Branch #4 country school through the eighth grade.
Charlie married Willemina DeVries of Orange City in 1947. To this union two children were born: Cheryl, Mrs. Bill Brown, of Bellevue, Nebraska. Cheryl and Bill have two sons: Aaron and his wife, Kristine and Luke and his wife, Erin. Charlies son Bob and his wife, Sharon live in Anchorage, Alaska. They have 7 children, 6 sons: Shawn, Chris, Cody, Matthew, Joshua and Jordan and one daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Tom Elmore and their daughter Megan.
Charlie farmed one mile east of Sioux Center until 1979, when he began working at Groschopp. He worked there 14 years retiring in 1993.
Charlie loved music and played mandolin most of his life. He instilled the love of music to his family. For many years he played with a group of friends and family at many area nursing homes and other events. Charlie was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center and was active in the Men's Brotherhood for many years.
Willemina suffered a stroke at an early age, and Charlie was a wonderful husband and caregiver to her until her death in 2000. In 2001 he was diagnosed with throat cancer, as a result of that Charlie needed some additional help. Willemina's cousin, Fenna Toots Winter, came to live with him. She remained a source of support, companionship and close friend.
Also surviving is his sister, Johanna Zomermaand of Struble; step-brother, Derrick Koele of Sioux Center; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Jenny Zomermaand; a brother and sister-in-law, Louie and Gertrude Niessink; and a brother-in-law, Gerrit Zomermaand.
