DONALD VANT HUL, 86, of Sioux Center died Sunday afternoon, 2/12, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, 2/15, at 2:30pm in the Chapel of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service in Hope Cemetery of Hull.

A prayer service will be held at Wednesday 2/15 at 1pm at First Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, 2/14, at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center from 2pm to 8pm, with the family present from 6:30pm to 8pm.

Donald F. Vant Hul was born August 1, 1919 at Hull, Iowa to William and Nellie (Vos) Vant Hul. As a young boy Don lived on a farm near Colton, South Dakota for five years. The family then returned to the Hull area. As a young-man, Don worked as a hired-hand for area farmers. He attended the First Reformed Church of Hull where he met and later married Gertrude Olivier on March 20, 1942.

Following their marriage Don and Gertrude farmed rented ground at Hull. In 1953 they purchased a farm near Colton, South Dakota. Don appreciated all that farming entailed. He loved growing crops and waking early to milk his Holstein cows. He often said he felt close to God when he was working in the field. While living near Colton, Don was an active member of the First Reformed Church where he served as an elder and Sunday school officer. He also served on the church board at Mission Bell Resort in Mission, Texas where he and Gert spent their winters for many years. He was an active supporter of Christian radio broadcasting and Christian education.

In 1975 Don retired from farming, and he and Gert moved to Sioux Center, Iowa. He enjoyed family gatherings and was fond of his nieces and nephews. He felt fortunate to have traveled throughout the country and see the beauty of Gods wondrous creation.

Don is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Gertrude Vant Hul of Sioux Center; sister and brother-in-law, Jenelda and Leonard Nieuwendorp of Sheldon; sister, Diana Marra of Fergus Falls, MN; two sisters-in-law: Allene Vant Hul of Ontario, CA and Esther Vant Hul of Brainerd, MN; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Arie and Esther Olivier of Sioux Center; sister-in-law, Dorothy Bomgaars of Sioux Center along with several nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Harold, Elmer, Lloyd and Milton Vant Hul; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Nellie Nyhuis and two brothers-in-law, Gene Marra and Nick Bomgaars.
