CORNIE DAVELAAR, 76, of Sioux Center died Sunday afternoon, 2/12, after a lengthy battle with Cancer at the Valley Manor Care Center in Rock Valley.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 16, 2006 at 11:00 am at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Reverend Carl Klompien officiating. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service at Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

A prayer service will be held Thursday, February 16, 2006 at 10:00am at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

Visitation will be held at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center Wednesday, February 15, 2006 from 2pm to 8pm with the family present from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

The Davelaar Family prefers memorials to the Sioux County Unit of the American Cancer Society, 1571 4th Avenue SE, Sioux Center, IA 51250.

Cornie Davelaar was born March 12, 1929 to William and Nellie (Rus) Davelaar in Rock Valley. On October 5, 1948 he was united in marriage to Lenora Caswell. To this union five children were born. Lenora passed away on September 25, 1990.

Cornie farmed for most of his life west of Sioux Center. He loved farming and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed a yearly fishing trip to Minnesota.

He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center and served as a deacon.

On August 27, 1994, Cornie married Alvina Gorter. The couple made their home in Sioux Center.

He is survived by his wife Alvina; his children: Wilma and Norm Vogel of Hull, Jerry and Jean Davelaar of Salida, CA, Jim and Glenda Davelaar of Sioux Center, Nancy and Harv De Jager of Maurice, Brian and Sheila Davelaar of Ireton; 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four step-children: Gail and Harold Vollink, of Hull, Arlys and Tony Rozeboom of Doon, Michael and Kellie Gorter of Doon, Harlan and Kathy Gorter of Doon; 13 step-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Willie and Henrietta Davelaar of Rock Valley; sister-in-law, Wilma Davelaar of Rock Valley; and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lenora; and brother, Pete.
