Ida Van Donge

July 4, 1923 — December 5, 2005

IDA VAN DONGE, 82, of Sioux Center, Iowa died Monday, 12/5, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, 12/7, 2pm at Faith Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Reverend Bernie Haan Officiating. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center, Iowa.

A prayer service will be held Wednesday, 12/7, at 1pm at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

Visitation will be held at Faith Christian Reformed Church of on Tuesday, 12/6, from 2pm to 8pm with the family present from 6pm to 8pm.

In lieu of flowers the Van Donge Family prefers memorial contributions to the Sioux Center Christian School or Hope Haven.

Ida (Miedema) Van Donge was born July 4, 1923, to John and Jennie (Bleyenberg) Miedema. She attended country school and graduated from Ireton Christian School.

Ida married Richard H. Van Donge on March 23, 1950. Shortly after their wedding, they moved to Camp Carson, CO, where Rich was in the service and Ida managed the guest house. When returning to Iowa, they farmed in the Sioux Center area. In 1965, they built the Colonial Motel.

Ida was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, and a charter member of Faith Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Family and friends will remember her for the tremendous generosity throughout the community, especially for her homemade pies, cinnamon rolls, and crochet work. Ida leaves her family with wonderful memories.

Those left to cherish her memories are husband Rich of 55 years, Byron (Byke) and wife Bonnie of Sioux Center, Jane and husband Michael Simmons of Downs, KS, Dan and wife Twila of Sioux Center, Rachelle (Shelly) and husband Monty Schoellerman of Sioux Center, Barbara (Barb) Mellema and husband Brian of Sioux Center, and Norma Van Donge and special friend Dustin Martin of Blue Earth, MN. One of Ida's many great joys were her 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Frieda Bierma, Henrietta (Doug) Ribbens, Theresa Cleveringa, Dorothy (Leroy) Kleene and sister-in-law Jeanette Miedema.

Ida was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Henry; and two brothers-in-law: Bill Bierma and Nelson Cleveringa.
