Case Schelling

Case Schelling, 86, of Sioux Center died, Friday, 12/09, at the Royale Meadows Care Center of Sioux Center.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 12/13, at 10:30am at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center, with Rev. G.M. de Leeuw officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Visitation will be held Monday, 12/12, from 2pm to 8pm, with the family present from 6:30pm to 8pm at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

Cornelius R. (Case) Schelling was born on December 28, 1918 to Rochus and Jennie (Harsamp) Schelling in rural Sioux County. He was raised in the Lebanon area. As a young man he served in the US Army during World War II from September 1942 through October 1945.

Case married Gertrude Vande Hoef on November 6, 1945 at Sioux Center, Iowa. Following their marriage the couple lived and farmed in the Orange City area until 1958. They moved to Hull and continued to farm until 1988 when they retired, moving to Sioux Center. Case was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Gertrude Schelling of Sioux Center; three children and spouses: Harriet and Rev. Leon Fikse of Redlands, CA, Roger Schelling of Midland, TX, and Carla and Loren Sietstra of Boyden; along with his seven grandchildren: Ryan, Wade and Brett Fikse, Jeffrey, Keith, Rachel and Chris Sietstra. Case is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law: Gilbert and Wilma Schelling and John and LaVonne Schelling, both of Sioux Center; five sisters and brothers-in-law: Henrietta Knibbe of Sioux Center, Alyda Ymker of Armour, SD, Emma and Gerrit Roskam of Sioux Center, Jeane and Herm Zomer of Rock Valley, Joane Zomer of Sioux Center; seven sisters-in-law: Ida Van Veldhuizen of Burlington, IA, Margaret Van DeStouwe, Jeanette Van Kekerix, Henrietta Van Beek, Allie Vande Hoef, all of Rock Valley, Esther Vande Hoef of Luverne, MN, and Suzanne Vande Hoef of Lynden, WA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: parents, three brothers, Jan (age 4), John (age 12), Willie (age 6), an infant brother, an infant sister, a sister-in-law, Grace Vande Hoef, ten brothers-in-law, Klaas Knibbe, Ed Ymker, Cornie Zomer, Joe Van Veldhuizen, Jake Van De Stouwe, Bert Van Kekerix, Simon Van Beek, John Vande Hoef, Dick Vande Hoef and Art Vande Hoef.
