MARTIN WYNIA, 81, of Sioux Center, Iowa passed away Saturday, 10/15, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, 10/18, at 10:30am at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
A prayer service will be held at 9:45am on Tuesday, 10/18, at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center.
Visitation will be held Monday, 10/17, in the First Reformed Church Fellowship Hall from 2pm to 8pm, with the family present from 6pm to 8pm.
MARTIN WYNIA was born February 23, 1924 to Frank and Johanna (Rodenburgh) Wynia near Ireton, Iowa. Martin was raised on the family farm near Ireton and attended Center Township #5 rural school through the eighth grade. As a young man he entered the US Army in April of 1945. He served his country during World War II stationed in Japan for one year as a part of the U.S. Army occupation forces. Martin received his honorable discharge in November of 1946 and returned home to continue farming.
On April 30, 1947 he married Wilmina Ennema in Sioux Center. The couple made their home on the Wynia Family farm until moving to their retirement home in Sioux Center in March of 1997. Martin loved and served his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Martin cherished his family. He was fond of farm life. During his lifetime, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Mina and spending time with his family.
Martin was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center where he served both as a deacon and elder. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and had served on the Rural Electric Cooperative board of directors.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Wilmina Wynia of Sioux Center; two daughters and sons-in-law: Gracia and Jim Vander Velde of Rock Valley, Elaine and Paul De Jong of Orange City; two sons and daughters-in-law: Marvin and Esther Wynia of Maurice, Wilmer and Diane Wynia of Ireton along with his 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Martin is also survived by two sisters: Tena Wynia and Frances Wynia both of Sioux Center; sisters-in-law: Arlene Wynia of Luverne, MN and Jean Wynia of Sheldon; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Andrew Brenneman, Art and Joan Brenneman, Herm and Adeline Brenneman, Bertha Vermeer, Don and Anna Mae Broek all of Sioux Center and several nieces and nephews.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Louis and Anna Wynia and Cornie and Jeanette Wynia; brother, Melvin Wynia; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Tracey Hoogland; brother-in-law, Harvey Vermeer; sister-in-law, Joan Brenneman and an infant granddaughter.
