Nellie Van Wyhe was born on September 8, 1912 to Klaas and Henrietta (Beek) Verburg on a farm south of Rock Valley, IA. She attended church and school in Rock Valley and was united in marriage to William (Bill) Van Wyhe of Hull on March 4, 1936.

They lived on two farms south of Rock Valley for the first six years of their marriage and later moved to the Van Wyhe home place a mile west of Perkins corner where Bill had grown up along with 14 brothers and sisters. Nellie and Bill raised their 6 children on the farm and resided there until 1976. Bill and Nellie then retired to the town of Hull. One and a half years later, Bill passed away of a sudden heart attack at the age of 68. A year after becoming a widow Nellie downsized and had a duplex built in N.W. Hull where she lived until 1996 when she moved to Franken Manor in Sioux Center. In September of 2003 she was hospitalized in Sioux City and underwent major surgery. Following her return she moved to the Sioux Center Nursing Facility and has experienced God's grace and wonderful care from doctors and nurses and enjoyed interacting with the nurses and fellow residents.

In the years prior to living at the nursing home, she enjoyed traveling which included visiting children and two trips to Holland. She was a very good seamstress and made lovely garments for children, grandchildren and for weddings. She also enjoyed crocheting, crafts, gardening and canning, and in the later years grew many flowers and houseplants. After her eyesight worsened due to macular degeneration, she passed the time by wrapping and tying colorful yarn on hundreds of clothes hangers and gave them to her family as well as residents and employees of the nursing home. God has been good to Nellie and her family and we praise and thank Him for blessing her with a sharp mind and many fruitful years.

Nellie is survived by her children, Marlene & Jasper (Jack) Timmer of Sioux Center, Kerwin & Fran of Denver, Co, Willard & Beverly of Webster City, IA, Rev. Art & Joanne of Holland, Michigan, Janice & Gary Bomgaars of Denver, Co., Daryl & Marvella of Hull; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three brothers William & Gertrude Verburg of Primgar, Henry & Ann Verburg of Sheldon, and Richard & Marian Verburg of Rock Valley.

She is preceded in Death by her husband of 42 years, William; her parents; one sister & brother-in-law, Marie & Albert Vink and one infant grand-daughter, Cody Chestnut.
