Paula Ordonez

Paula Ordonez, 84, of Sioux Center, formerly of Honduras, the mother of Mrs. Ed Woodbury of Sioux Center, died unexpectedly Wednesday, 6/1, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, 6/4, at 10:30am at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Visitation with the family present will be held prior to the service on Saturday morning from 9:30am to service time at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

The family prefers memorials in care of the Woodbury Family.

Paula Ordez, daughter of Benito and Desideria Ordez, was born on August 13, 1920, in Choluteca Honduras. She was the 4th of 5 children, who became orphans at an early age. She spent the years of her childhood in Choluteca, a place she loved and remembered dearly. Paula received Jesus Christ when she was a teenager and since then, she had been a faithful servant and disciple of our Lord.
Paula and Salomn Melgares had two children, Socorro Mara and Jos Salomn. After Salomns death at the age of 34, she never remarried. Paula lived in different places including El Progreso, Yoro where she saw her daughter and son grow up and become teachers, a profession she would have liked to pursue. She was a member of the 1st Evangelical and Reformed Church of El Progreso, where she served the Lord as a deaconess for many years. Later she moved for a few years to San Pedro Sula, Corts to live with her son and his family. Then, she moved to live with her daughter and her family to Minneapolis, MN and stayed with them for about 30 years, going with them to different places including Costa Rica, Pennsylvania, and West Chicago, IL. Finally she made Sioux Center, IA her last place of residence and became a member of Lebanon Christian Reformed Church.
Paula was known for being a hard-worker and loving mother, who always tried to live a Christian life as an example for her children and all of those she loved. She enjoyed sunny days and walking in the garden, reading the Bible, and praying without ceasing for all of those who had a special place in her heart. Paula was a blessing to all of those who knew her. She leaves a great legacy of love, honesty, perseverance, and compassion.

She is survived by her children, Socorro & Ed Woodbury of Sioux Center, Jose (Salomon) & Nelly Melgares; five grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother & sister-in-law, Jorge & Obdulia Ordonez.

Paula was preceded in death by her husband Salomon; and three sisters, Estefana, Sofia and Pastora.
