I Pearl Shicks

March 5, 1912 — June 14, 2005

PEARL SHICKS, 93, of Sioux Center, Iowa died Tuesday, 6/14, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 6/18, at 10am at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center with Rev. Carl Boersma and Rev. Randy Widbin officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Visitation will be held Friday evening, 6/17, from 7pm to 8pm with the family present at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

The Family prefers memorials in memory of Pearl Shicks be directed to the Billy Graham Association.

Izola Pearl (Hoffee) Shicks was born March 5, 1912 to Harve & Alva (Schuster) Hoffee in Fairfield, IL. On October 2, 1932 she was united in marriage to Oscar L. Shicks in Urbana, IL. She and Oscar then settled in Moline, IL and raised their family.

While living in the Moline area Pearl was a member of Faith Evangelical Free Church where she taught Sunday School and a Deaconess. Pearl worked in Moline at the New York Store and later as a custodian for the Moline Public schools. Pearl and Oscar also owned a Drive-In Root Beer stand for a short time. Pearl and Oscar moved to Sioux Center in 1994 and began attending New Life Reformed Church.

Pearl enjoyed knitting, quilting and gardening.

Pearl is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Vel & Pat Shicks of Sioux Center; two grandchildren and their spouses: Ruth & Dale Landegent of Sioux Center and Bryan & Melissa Shicks of Crandon, WI; four great-grandchildren: Titus Landegent and Bethany Landegent both of Sioux Center and John-Bryan and Bryanna Shicks of Crandon, WI.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Oscar; her parents; and her sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor & Wendell Rinker.
