ALMA TER MAAT, 93, of Sioux Center, Iowa died Friday, 6/17, at the Sioux Center Community Nursing Facility.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11am at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center with Rev. Mark Verbruggen officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 3pm to 8pm, with the family present from 6:30pm to 8pm at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center, Iowa.
Memorials are preferred to the New Nursing Home Project in care of the Sioux Center Community Hospital Foundation.
Alma Gertrude (Kallemeyn) Ter Maat was born July 4, 1911 to Peter and Katie (Abbink) Kallemeyn in Castlewood, South Dakota. She spent most of her formative years in the Volga, South Dakota area.
Alma was joined in marriage to Rev. Christian Garret Ter Maat on March 13, 1947 in Volga, South Dakota. Rev. Ter Maat was serving as the minister of the Christian Reformed Church of Esteline at that time. The couple later served churches in: Allison, Iowa, Vesper, Wisconsin and Sullivan, Michigan before making their home in Sioux Center.
She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. She loved crocheting and sewing and spending time with her many friends at the Sioux Center Nursing Facility.
Almas family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Staff of the Sioux Center Nursing Facility for the care that they have provided Alma.
Alma is survived by her two children and their spouses: Richard & Elsy Ter Maat of Vancouver, BC, and Kathy & Bob Martin, of Winnipeg, MB; four grandchildren Rochelle & Stefan van der Veer, Erik Ter Maat, Anna & Jason Hill, Sara & Brent Breedveld; three great grandchildren Eline, Noah & Joshua; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Rev. C. G. Ter Maat; her parents; three brothers: John Kallemeyn, Ray Kallemeyn, & Lyle Kallemeyn; and a sister, Margaret Baker.
