Bertha was a member of Lebanon Christian Reformed Church while living on the family farm. She later transferred her membership to Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center.

In 1986, Bertha became a resident of Valley Manor Care Center in Rock Valley where she received the special care she needed.

Surviving are her two sisters and brothers-in-law: Nellie and Marvin Huenink and Henrietta and Wilbur Huenink all of Hawarden; brother and sister-in-law, Severt and Grace Haverhals of Sioux Center along with her numerous nieces and nephews.
