Walter Diekevers

August 23, 1911 — March 13, 2005

WALTER OLE M. DIEKEVERS 93, of Boyden, IA died Sunday, March 13, 2005 at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, IA.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday March 16, 2005 at the First Reformed Church of Boyden at 1:30 pm with Rev. Matthew Draffen officiating. Interment will follow at Sheridan Township Cemetery of rural Boyden, IA.

Visitation will be held at the First Reformed Church of Boyden Tuesday, March 15, 2005 from 4 pm to 8 pm with the family present from 6 pm to 8 pm.

Walter Ole M. Diekevers was born August 23, 1911 to Edward and Adrianna (Ver Hoef) Diekevers of Boyden, IA. During his elementary years he attended the Boyden Christian School and continued his education at Boyden High.

He married Bertha Kooiman, of Boyden, on November 26, 1931, in her parents home. The couple then made their home in Boyden where they lived their entire marriage.

Walter was always very active in his community. He was a Boyden Fire Department volunteer, active in Town Council and a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church. Walter faithfully worked as the manager of the Farmers Co-Op Association in Boyden for 40 years. In 1985 he was given the honor of Citizen of the Year because of the active roll he played in his beloved town.

He is survived by one daughter & son-in-law, Leola & John Humme of Boyden, one son & daughter-in-law, Ed & Rosie Diekevers of Boyden; seven grandchildren: Laura & Dwayne Van Meeteren, Leila & Paul Moret, Lorraine & Daryl Egdorf all of Boyden, Linda & Gary Obbink of Sibley, Pam & Paul Habbinga, Mike & Bonnie Diekevers all Boyden, Stacy Diekevers of George; thirteen great-grandchildren: Amanda & Seth Haverhals, Craig Van Meeteren, Mark Moret, David Egdorf, Rachel Egdorf, Adam Obbink, Kari Obbink, Jenna Diekevers, Todd Diekevers, Jonathan Habbinga, Benjamin Habbinga, Skye Taylor and Deija Taylor; one brother & sister-in-law, Marvin & Dorothy Diekevers of Hull; one sister, Thelma Kooiman of Edgerton, MN; sisters-in-law: Nelvina Diekevers of Hull, Ruth Diekevers of Sheldon; brother-in-law, Vernon Ingalls of Sheldon.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, Bertha, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Carrie Ingalls of Sheldon; three brothers, George & Adrian of Boyden and Harold of Sheldon.
