Mina Hoekstra

October 6, 1922 — February 6, 2005

Mina Hoekstra of Hull, IA died February 4, 2005 at the Pomona Valley Medical Center in Pomona, CA. She was born October 6, 1922, in Hull, IA, the daughter of Evert & Maggie (Mulder) Van Maanen. She graduated from the eighth grade at Perkins Christian School.

Mina was joined in marriage to Ted Hoekstra on December 30, 1947, at her parents home. After their marriage they lived a short time in Bellflower, CA before moving back to Northwest Iowa. They spent most of their married life on their farm 3 miles southeast of Hull. In 1989, they retired to their current residence in Hull. For the last 20 years the couple wintered in California, primarily in the Chino / Ontario area.

Mina was a member of the Protestant Reformed Church of Hull. She was active in the Martha Ladies Aid Society and the WEALTH Bible study. She enjoyed volunteering at the Pleasant Acres Nursing Home of Hull as well as assisting with the Meals On Wheels program.

Mina will be well remembered for her crocheting. Many family members can attest to the warmth and beauty of her handiwork. Family was one of her greatest joys, she loved to spend time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She rejoiced in the words of III John verse 4 I have no greater joy, than to hear that my children walk in the truth.

Mina is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ted Hoekstra of Hull; seven children and their spouses: Marilyn & Loran Te Grotenhuis of Hull, Phyllis & Leon Uittenbogaard of Hull, Charles & Kathy Hoekstra of Sioux Falls, SD, Peter & LaVonne Hoekstra of Sioux Center, Tim & Judy Hoekstra of Chino, CA, Everett & Cathy Hoekstra of Chesterfield, VA and Elaine Tinklenberg of Sioux Falls, SD; twenty-five grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four brothers & sisters-in-law: Bert & Bernice Van Maanen of Hull, Tom Van Maanen of Hull, Ed & Christine Van Maanen of Doon and Harold & Lois Van Maanen of Hull; two sisters and brother-in-law, Margaret Hoekstra of Hull and Jane & Henry Hoksbergen of Hull and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mina was preceded in death by her parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Ella & Andrew Meendering; a brother & sister-in-law, Roy & Grace Van Maanen; brother-in-law, Don Hoekstra; and two sisters-in-law, Alyda Van Maanen and Gerdena Van Maanen.
